EUDAMED 2026: Orthopedic Instrument Documentation Checklist for Distributors

Business update for orthopedic distributors and OEM buyers: the European Commission states that the first four EUDAMED modules became mandatory on 28 May 2026. For companies preparing reusable orthopedic instruments for European distribution, this makes accurate actor, device, UDI and certificate information more important during supplier qualification.

What changed in 2026?

The European Commission’s EUDAMED overview explains that Actor Registration, UDI/Device Registration, Notified Bodies and Certificates, and Market Surveillance entered mandatory use after the transition period. The change does not mean every orthopedic hand instrument has the same regulatory route. Classification, intended purpose, reusable status and market responsibilities must be assessed for each model.

Documentation distributors should request before ordering

A professional RFQ should identify the exact instrument name, SKU or reference, intended purpose, material grade, dimensional specification, surface finish, reusable or single-use status, packaging configuration and applicable labeling. When a product is offered as part of a set, request a component table showing every instrument, size, quantity and reference. Do not accept a generic photograph as proof of an exact configuration.

Buyers should also confirm who will act as manufacturer, importer and distributor in the target market; which party owns the UDI and device-registration records; and which documents will accompany evaluation samples and commercial shipments. Regulatory claims should be supported by current, model-specific evidence—not copied from an unrelated product family.

How ORTHOSURGI structures an evaluation request

Start with the orthopedic surgical instruments collection, then identify the required models and quantities. For custom branding or distributor programs, review our OEM and private-label options. Our quality approach emphasizes model-specific inspection and agreed specifications rather than unsupported universal claims.

For a quotation, include your destination market, buyer role, required references, sample quantity, target material and finish, packaging, marking, documentation list and proposed order volume. This makes technical review faster and reduces avoidable revisions.

Practical 2026 procurement checklist

Before approving a supplier, verify the legal manufacturer identity, model-level specifications, traceable product references, labeling responsibility, reusable-device processing information, exact set contents, artwork approvals and change-control process. If a claim cannot be verified, record it as pending instead of assuming compliance.
